Here lies a rabbi eminent in the Torah, a true Hassid from a praised ancestry, R’ Yakov [Jacob] Yosef [Josef] son of the famous righteous rabbi our teacher and rabbi Pinchas Eliyahu May the memory of the righteous be of a blessing head of the Jewish religious court of the holy community of Pilica [Pilz in Yiddish] died 2 Menachem Av 5686. [The following is an acrostic poem spelling the name of the deceased Yakov Yosef] Yosef is a master in religion, his ancestors’ branch in work and in piety, Yakov Yosef was connected to God’s living Torah, known in the gates as a charming generous man, passed away on Tuesday 2 Menachem Av [13 July 1926], those who know him and his relatives mourn him bitterly, a delightful consoler to our souls was taken from us, our crown glory, Woe unto us who will heal us.
