An acrostic poem spelling the name of the deceased Shemaria son of Yakov
Here lies. A crisis happened to us when our father died, the light
of our eyes darkened at noon, we will lower our heads and
surrender from the volume of our grief,? ? for the passing of our father,
the righteous scholar Shemaria son of Yakov [Jacob], ?
took a charming soul, the crown of our heads has fallen our
beauty is gone, those who knew him and his relatives will mourn
him, our eyes are dripping water for him, the sound of wailing
and lamentation is being heard for him, his soul left on the seven and twenty
[27] days to the month of Tamuz in the year 5660 [24 July 1900]
by the abbreviated era….
